Mission Statement
"The Mission of the Greenville Community Shelters is to serve the
poor and the homeless in a continuum of care from basic shelter to prevention
that empowers clients to acheive and maintain lives of self-sufficiency."
Emergency Assistance Ministry
"The mission of the Emergency Assistance Ministry (EAM) of the
Greenville Community Shelters is to show compassion by assisting in
providing for the basic human needs of Pitt County reisidents in emergency
situations. Recipients are expected to participate in programs which
promote disiplined, responsible living."
How We Help
The Greenville Community Shelter is a private, nonprofit ageny
-- not a government program. We assist individual adult men and women
ages 18 years and old, and families, in setting and meeting lifestyle
management goals that will allow them to become more self-reliant. By
collaborating with other community agencies (see links)
and individual volunteers, the Shelter seeks to reduce or prevent homelessness.
Assisting people to achieve and maintain long term productivity and
independence in daily living is a common component in all the programs
offered: Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Emergency Assistance
Ministry (EAM), and Solid Ground permanent housing. There are also seasonal
programs geared towards Shelter children and, in partnership with Pitt
Community College, on-going educational enrichment programs including
life skills training, financial management, and employment skills/ education
level upgrading.
